The beaches you find on Google are always the same ones. These aren't. These are the coves where you park the car in Torca and walk down 700 stone steps, where you arrive on foot from Nerano, where the water is so clear you can see the seabed at ten metres. These are the beaches where Sorrentines take their children on Saturday mornings. We've included the distance from Villa Lorelei for each one, because we are the ideal base for all of them.

The closest seaside village to Villa Lorelei: dark sand and pebbles, calm water facing Vesuvius, restaurants and beach clubs along the shore.

The most romantic natural pool on the peninsula, beside the ruins of a Roman villa near Capo di Sorrento, reached on foot and free from the crowds.

Distance: 10 min drive + 25 min walk

Getting there: Drive or bus to Capo di Sorrento, then a marked footpath from the Traversa Punta Capo car park

A rocky cove with a small beach below Colli di San Pietro, reached via the steep CAI 347A stone staircase. No facilities.

Distance: 15 min drive + 35 min walk

Getting there: SS163 to Colli di San Pietro, then CAI trail 347A down the old stone staircase to the sea

Fiordo di Crapolla

A true fjord with white pebbles inside a Marine Protected Area, reached by descending 700 stone steps from Torca village.

Distance: 20 min drive + 60 min walk

Getting there: From Torca village, follow the signs from the San Tommaso Apostolo church square down 700 stone steps

A secluded light-pebble cove just 10 minutes on foot from Marina del Cantone, near the 16th-century Torre di Recommone.

Distance: 20 min drive + 10 min walk

Getting there: From Marina del Cantone, take the scenic coastal trail around Punta Sant'Antonio (or arrive by kayak)

A legendary FAI-managed bay in the Punta Campanella reserve with deep blue water and views of Capri's Faraglioni.

Distance: 20 min drive + 50 min walk

Getting there: Park at Nerano and follow the marked FAI trail to the bay (or take an authorised boat tour)
